Help Your Teen Overcome Their Challenges
A Decade of Proven Solutions
In 2007, I founded the Academy for Independence, with my practice solely focused on teens and their parents. Through this practice, I empower teens with the tools and self-confidence to conquer success in school and in life. I also facilitate more ease and joy within the arent-teen relationship. My workshops include academic strategies and real world issues, such as conflict-resolution, decision-making, dating, and body image.
What’s My Approach?
For over a decade, my approach has been to respect teens without attaching judgment and listening to their concerns with empathy in a confidential manner. This allows teens to trust and feel safe with exploring vulnerable topics and issues. Re-framing their challenges and discovering different perspectives allows them the space and awareness to perceive new opportunities and solutions. Additionally, guiding teens to greater awareness of their limiting beliefs, which impacts their behaviors, to shifting their mindset toward their capacities. creates long-lasting change.
How Did I Derive This Approach?
My experience is an integration of a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, a decade of working with teens as an Education Consultant, and a teacher of Independent Living Skills with young adults with mental illness and/or Developmental Disabilities. I’ve also worked with teens with learning or developmental disabilities, gifted teens, and teens with typical adolescent issues – victims of bullying, self-image, and peer pressure to fit in, among other everyday issues.
I am also a mother who survived the 'terrible twos' and the 'terrible teen' years.
So, what’s next?
In a nutshell, teens are my tribe. I have respect and a keen awareness of teen issues at a deep level. I have tools, strategies, & techniques to meet—even exceed—parental expectations.
